Our Community

JRP Pups & Pawrents

Our community, known as JRP Pups & Pawrents (formerly "Jackie's Home Run"), is a network of 100+ New Yorkers residing near Jackie Robinson Park. In partnership with the Jackie Robinson Park Conservancy, we are dedicated to making our historic landmark park a green oasis for the pups and paw-rents of Harlem. Community efforts include park cleanups, dog-centric events, canine education, and the Polo Grounds Dog Run.

Our Mission

JRP Pups & Pawrents is a volunteer-run community organization dedicated to improving the safety,

health, and quality of life for dogs and their families in Central Harlem. Through education, support, stewardship, advocacy, and local collaboration, we build a compassionate, informed community of dog owners who share resources, knowledge, and care.

Core activities:

  • ADVOCACY: Raise awareness of animal welfare and training needs in Central Harlem and mobilize community support to create and sustain a dedicated dog run for exercise and socialization.

  • EDUCATION & PROGRAMMING: Provide training and informational programs on responsible pet care, socialization, and behavior.

  • STEWARDSHIP: Fundraise for and provide volunteer support to create, maintain, and clean the community dog run and to participate in park cleanup efforts in Jackie Robinson Park.

  • RESOURCES: Host neighborhood dog supply swaps (leashes, harnesses, collars, crates, bowls, toys, food, clothing, etc.) and donate remaining items to local rescues; curate and share trusted local service referrals (veterinarians, trainers, etc.).

  • COLLABORATION: Partner with local shelters and organizations to coordinate services, events, and outreach.

  • SUPPORT: Assist neighbors by promoting pet adoptions, reuniting lost pets, and helping community members in need.

Our vision is a safer, healthier, and more connected Central Harlem where dogs and
their families thrive together.
